STUDIO POLICIES

M-9.png

Our studio is proud of our reputation for building strong dancers and developing character. The following policies help foster a safe and friendly environment while building self-respect and respect for others.

STUDENT CONDUCT

At our studio, we strive to create a positive, respectful, and inspiring environment for all dancers. By enrolling, students agree to uphold the following expectations:

COMMITMENT TO LEARNING
Students are expected to actively participate in class by engaging in instruction, practicing diligently, or quietly observing when appropriate.

PERSONAL & COMMUNITY GROWTH
Dancers should set individual goals and work toward them with dedication while offering encouragement and support to fellow students in pursuit of their own goals.

KINDNESS & INCLUSION

All students must be kind, encouraging, and accepting of their fellow dancers. Bullying, harassment, or exclusion of any kind will not be tolerated and may result in immediate dismissal from the studio.

STUDIO REPRESENTATION
Students are expected to uphold the values and culture of our studio, both within class and at all studio-related events and performances.

DRESS CODE & ACCOUNTABLY
Students must follow the Studio of Dance Dress Code at all times. This includes arriving properly dressed for class, with hair secured as required, and bringing all necessary footwear and accessories in a dance bag.

RESPECT & CLASS ETIQUETTE
Respect for teachers, classmates, and studio property is essential. Students are expected to demonstrate good manners, follow class rules, and avoid disrupting the learning environment.

CLASS LEVELS & PLACEMENTS

OUR CLASS LEVELS

Here at Miss Lucy's, we do our class levels a little different than most studios.  Just like gymnastics has levels and karate has belts, our studio curriculum is based on a 10-level system to guide your dancer’s progress. Each class level focuses on a specific set of skills and techniques that dancers work to master before moving on.

Our transparent, student-centered approach means every dancer’s journey is unique. We’re here to support and celebrate each step—no matter how long it takes—to help every dancer reach their personal best with joy and confidence.

OUR CURRICULUM
We believe in keeping families fully informed every step of the way. For each level, we provide a detailed list of skills your dancer will be learning. This list is shared with parents so you always know exactly what your child is working on and the goals ahead.

But here’s where we’re different:

  • There’s no rush! Dancers can stay in a level for as long as they need— some dancers level up each year whether others chose to stay in their level for 2-3 years before being evaluated for the next level.

  • Your dancer chooses when they’re ready for their end-of-level evaluation. We encourage them to feel confident and prepared before moving forward.

  • This helps create a positive, pressure-free environment where every dancer moves at their own pace.

  • Unlike many studios that separate technique classes into “company” and “recreational” groups, we believe in inclusive classes where all dancers have access to the same high-quality training and opportunities. This ensures every dancer, no matter their goals, benefits from a strong technical foundation and supportive community.

OUR ELITE LEVEL
After completing Level 10, dancers enter our Elite Level—an advanced class designed for those pursuing professional-level training and performance opportunities.

LEVEL EVALUATIONS

At Miss Lucy’s, we believe every dancer’s journey is unique—and that includes how and when they move up through our levels. That’s why our yearly evaluations are completely optional and designed to be a positive, low-pressure experience. At Miss Lucy’s, it’s all about growing at your own pace and celebrating progress in every form!

Each spring, dancers have the opportunity to participate in an end-of-level evaluation if they feel ready. During the evaluation, they’ll demonstrate the skills they’ve been working on throughout the year in a relaxed, supportive setting.

These evaluations help teachers assess your dancer’s progress and determine if they’re ready to advance to the next level. Whether your dancer chooses to be evaluated this year or not, we’re here to support their growth, confidence, and love of dance every step of the way. We’ll always keep parents in the loop with skill checklists and teacher feedback so you can make the best choice for your dancer—there’s no pressure to move up before they’re truly ready.

NEW STUDENTS

We love welcoming new dancers to Miss Lucy’s! If this is your first time dancing, we recommend starting in Level One. It’s the perfect place to learn the basics, build strong technique, and grow your confidence right from the start.

And don’t worry—if you catch on quickly (and we think you might!), we’ll happily move you into a level that’s the best fit for your progress. We’re here to support your dance journey every step of the way

NEW STUDENTS WITH PREVIOUS DANCE EXPERIENCE

If you're joining us for the first time and have previous dance experience, we want to help you find the class level that’s just right for you. Here are a few easy options:

1) Join One of Our Scheduled Evaluations

A great way to get familiar with our program and let our teachers guide you toward the right fit.

2) Schedule a Private Evaluation

Prefer something more one-on-one? We’re happy to set up a private session where one of our teachers can get to know you and recommend the best level for you to start in.

3) Jump In and Try It Out

Take a look at our class skill lists and choose the level that feels like the best match for you. Come to class and, over the first few weeks, your teacher will work with you to make sure you’re right where you need to be!

Our goal is to make sure every dancer feels confident, supported, and excited about where they’re learning. If you’re unsure where to start, just reach out—we’re always happy to help!

PRIVATE LESSONS

PRIVATE LESSONS

We love private lessons at Miss Lucy’s! These one-on-one sessions are a wonderful way to boost confidence, refine technique, and master challenging moves in a fun, supportive setting. Whether suggested by a teacher or requested by the dancer themselves, private lessons focus on the specific areas that need extra practice and care.

When we recommend a private lesson for your dancer, we’ll send you a private lesson request with all the details. Of course, you’re also welcome to reach out anytime to request a private lesson for your dancer.

Private lessons are a valuable part of our studio family, helping every dancer shine their brightest!

SCHEDULING PRIVATE LESSONS

Families are welcome to schedule private lessons directly through our Google Calendar! Lessons can be booked up to 48 hours in advance and are based on studio and staff availability.

CANCELLATION POLICY

We understand that things come up! You’re welcome to cancel or reschedule your private lesson up to 48 hours in advance with no charge. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the lesson will still be billed, as the time has been reserved especially for you. To avoid the cancellation fee, you're welcome to transfer your time slot to another student—just let us know so we can update the schedule.

CLASS SCHEDULING

CLASS SCHEDULE

Our Fall Schedule runs from September through June and is thoughtfully designed to give dancers a consistent, structured, and fun learning experience. Each class meets weekly, and dancers are placed by level to ensure they’re learning at a pace that’s just right for them. You can view our full schedule and register for classes through your Parent Portal.

SCHEDULE CHANGES

From time to time, we may need to make adjustments to our class schedule. This could include:

  • Substituting a teacher

  • Cancelling or shortening a class due to low enrollment

  • Closing registration for a class that has reached full capacity

We’ll always keep you informed of any changes as early as possible, and we appreciate your flexibility and understanding!

STUDIO COMMUNICATIONS

STUDIO COMMUNICATION

At our studio, we’re dedicated to keeping you informed and connected every step of the way! Our primary method of communication is email, so please make sure we have your most up-to-date address and check it regularly for important updates.

Here’s how we stay in touch:

  • Class updates, event reminders, recital information, and weather-related notices will be sent via email.

  • We also use email to share payment reminders, costume info, and general studio news—so you never miss a beat!

  • Prefer to speak with someone directly? Call or text us at 508-233-0955. We’re happy to take your call during regular studio hours! If no one is available at the desk when you call, please leave a message with your name, number, and the reason for your call—we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

To help make sure you stay in the loop, don’t forget to add us to your contacts so our emails don’t end up in your spam folder.

PARENT - STAFF COMMUNICATIONS

We want to keep communication easy, clear, and respectful for everyone! To help with this, we ask that all messages come through our official studio email or phone number.

Our teachers and staff don’t text or email parents from personal accounts, and we kindly ask families not to reach out to them directly on their personal phones or emails. This way, everyone gets the same important info, and our teachers can enjoy their personal time too.

Our teachers absolutely love seeing all your silly dance photos and fun moments—please keep those coming! But if you do reach out to a teacher or staff member with questions or concerns beyond those fun photos, they’ll kindly ask you to please contact the office directly.

If you need to reach us, just email misslucysschoolofdance@gmail.com or call 508-233-0955. We’re always happy to help and will get back to you as soon as possible.

PARENT MEETINGS

We’re always happy to chat! If you’d like to speak with a teacher, feel free to schedule a time to meet. To help keep classes running smoothly, we kindly ask that you don’t approach teachers during or between classes.

DRESS CODE

DRESS CODE
To ensure a safe, focused, and professional learning environment, all students are expected to follow the studio dress code.  Proper dance attire allows instructors to see alignment and movement clearly, helps prevent injury, and promotes discipline and unity in the classroom.

Visit our DRESS CODE page of our website for detailed information on proper dress code for each class

  • Hair must be neatly secured away from the face and off the neck in a neat clean bun.  Ponytails are permitted for hip hop classes.

  • Sweaters, hoodies, sweatpants, baggie pants or shorts, are not permitted in class.  If your dancer is cold, we allow our dancers to wear a fitted long sleeve shirt or ballet sweater over their dance attire.

  • Please leave all jewelry at home as we cannot permit dancers to where jewelry in class. While jewelry is beautiful, it becomes a safety hazard very quickly. This includes bracelets, necklaces, rings, and Apple Watches.

Students who arrive without appropriate attire may be asked to change or sit out for their safety. Thank you for helping us maintain a professional and secure environment for all dancers.

RECITAL

All dancers will have the opportunity to participate in the annual recital! Recital is an optional event for our students and is held each June.

At Miss Lucy's our recital is focused on celebrating our dancer's growth and hard work throughout the year! Each of our performance level classes will present a dance that showcases what they have learned.  Our competitive teams will also perform a selection of their team dances. We invite all of our dancer's grown ups to come and celebrate with us!

RECITAL COSTUMES

RECITAL COSTUME FEE

Costume deposits are due by October 1st and help us ensure everything is ordered on time for our big performance! Each costume fee includes tights and a garment bag, so your dancer will be fully prepared for the big day!

Please note:

  • Costumes will only be ordered for dancers whose deposits are paid in full by the deadline.

  • Deposits are non-refundable, as we begin ordering and reserving costumes right away.

  • Some special or custom costumes may have additional charges, and we'll always communicate those ahead of time if needed.

MEASUREMENTS & SIZING

We’ll be measuring all dancers for their recital costumes in November. Our team carefully considers growth when choosing sizes to help ensure a great fit by recital time. All classes will have a chance to try on their costumes at the studio before taking them home to make sure everything fits just right!

Please note that if any alterations are needed, they will be the responsibility of the parent or guardian. We’re happy to offer guidance if you have questions about adjustments!

COSTUME PICK UP

All costumes will stay safely at the studio until they’re packaged and ready to go home in May. Once your dancer’s costume has been picked up, it becomes the responsibility of the parent or guardian—so please keep it in a safe place! Costumes are special and not easily replaced, so we appreciate your help in taking great care of them once they’re home. We ask dancers do not eat, drink or play around the house in their costumes until after the recital to ensure they stay in top condition for the big day. â€‹â€‹

ATTENDANCE

CLASS ATTENDANCE

If your dancer will be absent from class, please let us know ahead of time when possible. This can be done right in your Parent Portal. Regular attendance helps dancers build skills and confidence, so we encourage everyone to attend as consistently as they can. We love seeing our dancers in class each week!

ARRIVAL

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, we ask that students arrive at least 10 minutes before their class begins. Arriving on time allows dancers to properly warm up and helps prevent injuries. Late arrivals disrupt the focus of the class, so your punctuality is greatly appreciated.

DISMISSAL

Please make sure your dancer arrives on time and is picked up promptly. We also ask that parents come inside the building for drop-off and pick-up to help us keep everyone safe and accounted for. For safety reasons, dancers under the age of 12 will only be dismissed to a parent or designated adult in the waiting room. They will not be allowed to leave the building on their own.

MISSED CLASSES & CANCELLATIONS

MISSED CLASS POLICY

Tuition is not refunded or prorated for missed classes or scheduled studio holidays. However, we’re happy to offer make-up classes for any missed time! Dancers are welcome to attend a make-up in an equal or lower level class. Make-up classes can be easily scheduled through your Parent Portal. If you need help finding a class that works, we’re always here to help!

SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS

The studio reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher if the regular instructor is absent. If a substitute cannot be arranged, the class may be canceled, rescheduled, and/or combined with a different class. If a class is canceled, your dancer is welcomed and encouraged to schedule a make up class in an equal or lower level class at your connivence. We will always keep you informed of any changes as soon as possible.

WEATHER CANCELLATIONS

If we ever need to cancel classes due to weather, we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop! Updates will be sent out via emai land posted on our social media pages, so be sure to check those if the weather looks questionable.

Because our tuition is based on the full dance season and divided into equal monthly payments for your convenience (rather than by the number of classes each month), we’re not able to offer refunds or make-up classes for weather-related closures.

STUDENT CONDUCT

TUITION & FEES

REGISTRATION FEE

A $35 enrollment fee is due at the time of registration, along with the first month’s tuition to ensure your dance has a spot in the class. Our enrollment fee is a non-refundable, annual fee for all our new and returning students.

TUITION PAYMENTS

Tuition is based on an annual fee and conveniently divided into 10 equal monthly payments from September through June.

We do require a credit or debit card on file for all accounts. All payments are automatically charged to the card on file on the first of each month for your convenience.

Families who prefer to pay for the entire year upfront are welcome to do so.

Families who prefer to pay by cash or check are welcome to do so—but please make sure payment is received before the due date to avoid the card being charged.

RECITAL COSTUME FEES

To make sure all costumes arrive in time for our big performance, costume deposits are due by October 1st. You’re welcome to pay early if you’d like—just let us know!

If we haven’t received your payment by October 1st, no worries—we’ll simply charge the card on file to keep everything on track.

Each costume fee includes tights and a garment bag, so your dancer will be fully prepared for the big day!

CREDIT CARD FEES

If paying by credit card there will be a 3% convenience fee applied to each payment..

LATE FEES & RETURNED CHECKS

Payments made after the 15th of the month are subject to a $25 surcharge. Returned checks will incur a $25 fee, which will also be charged to the card on file.

WITHDRAWAL

If your dancer needs to withdraw from the studio, we kindly ask that you notify us in writing (email is perfect!) as soon as possible. This helps us keep our class rosters up to date and allows us to offer the spot to another dancer.

Please note that until we receive written notice, your dancer’s spot will be held and tuition will continue to be invoiced. Any outstanding balances will still be due.

SAFETY & SECURITY

STUDENT CONDUCT

INJURIES

The safety and well-being of our dancers are our top priorities. While we take every precaution to provide a safe environment, injuries can sometimes happen during dance classes or events.

Please understand that the studio and its staff are not responsible for any injuries that may occur during classes, rehearsals, or studio events. All dancers must have a signed waiver on file before participating in any class or activity. This ensures everyone understands the risks and agrees to participate safely and responsibly.

If your child is injured during class, our staff will provide immediate basic first aid and notify you as soon as possible. In case of a serious injury, we will contact emergency services and follow their guidance.

We ask parents to inform the studio promptly of any injuries or medical conditions that may affect a dancer’s participation. If a dancer is unable to participate due to injury, please provide a doctor’s note outlining any restrictions or recommended accommodations.

BATHROOM POLICY

To keep all our dancers safe and comfortable, parents are responsible for attending to their children’s bathroom needs. Our staff at Miss Lucy’s will not assist students with toileting.  â€‹

  • For children under age 5, a parent or guardian must stay in the building during class to quickly help with any potty emergencies.

  • For dancers aged 2–5, if your child needs a restroom break, a staff member or teaching assistant will bring them directly to you. When your dancer is ready, please walk them back to the classroom door to rejoin class.

  • If a parent is not present, our staff will escort your child to the restroom and wait outside the bathroom until they’re finished. If your dancer needs extra guidance, staff will offer quiet, private instructions from the hallway.

  • For dancers ages 6 and up, students are allowed to leave class and visit the restroom independently.

LOST & FOUND

Please make sure your child’s name is written on every item they bring to class, especially dance shoes. If your child has new shoes, we’re happy to help label them during class! A lost and found box is located in our waiting room. Please note that the studio is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.

STUDIO CULTURE

ANTI-BULLYING

ANTI-BULLYING POLICY - OUR STUDIO STANDS FOR KINDNESS

At Miss Lucy's School of Dance, we believe that every dancer deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported. We are committed to creating a positive, inclusive environment where everyone can shine — on and off the dance floor.

Bullying, teasing, exclusion, or any form of unkind behavior — whether in person or online — will not be tolerated. This includes harmful words, actions, or attitudes that make others feel unwelcome, unsafe, or uncomfortable. We expect all dancers, families, and staff to treat one another with kindness, patience, and respect at all times. If any form of bullying is reported, it will be taken very seriously. We will investigate the situation thoroughly, and appropriate action will be taken.

PLEASE NOTE: Any dancer found guilty of engaging in bullying behavior may be dismissed from the studio. There are no second chances when it comes to protecting the safety and well-being of our dance family.

Together, let’s build a studio culture where everyone feels accepted, supported, and proud to be themselves. Dance is for everyone — and everyone belongs here.

ANTI-DRAMA

ANTI-DRAMA POLICY - A POSITIVE SPACE FOR ALL

At Miss Lucy's School of Dance, we are committed to creating a positive, respectful, and drama-free environment for our dancers, families, and staff. We believe dance should be a place of joy, growth, and support — and we all play a role in protecting that atmosphere.

To keep our studio a safe and encouraging space, the following behaviors are strictly not allowed:

  • Bragging, gossiping, or creating cliques that exclude or put others down

  • Fighting, arguing, or intentionally causing conflict

  • Harassment or disrespect toward dancers, teachers, staff, or other families

  • Shouting or aggressive behavior toward anyone in the studio

  • Angry or hostile emails/messages — these will not be responded to and will be deleted without being read

  • Speaking negatively about the studio, staff, dancers, or families in person or on social media

We encourage open communication and always welcome respectful conversations to resolve concerns and we encourage any issues that arise to be brought to our attention promptly and respectful.  We love parent meetings and are happy to meet with you to discuss your concerns. However, drama, hostility, and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

PLEASE NOTE: Any individual — dancer, parent, or staff — who contributes to drama or violates this policy may be asked to leave the studio. We take this very seriously to protect the well-being of our entire dance family.

Let’s work together to maintain a culture of kindness, support, and teamwork — where everyone feels welcome and valued.
